Clinical Policies

We hope that the policies listed below will answer questions that you may have.  Should you have any additional concerns, feel free to call us directly to discuss.

Lab and Imaging Results

Patients who may have blood drawn for annual exams or another testing may have their blood drawn at our office or may do so at any reputable lab such as Quest or Lab Corp as well or others. We encourage patients to sign up for online access to lab results directly through the company they choose.

Abnormal lab or imaging results require an appointment.

Medication Refills

Please do not call our office for refills. Medications are prescribed with specific refills based on the condition being treated. It is the patient’s responsibility to schedule an appointment for additional refills.

ADD/ADHD Medications

Stimulant medications (Ritalin, Adderall, Vyvanse, etc.) are written on “Triplicate” prescriptions, which are state-controlled. Refills of any state-controlled medications require a quarterly visit, including a urine sample. Refills between quarterly visits (if dose adjustments are not required) may be picked up at the front desk upon paying a $5.00 fee for the cost of the prescription. Please allow 1-2 days for these prescriptions to be prepared.

Testosterone Therapy

Patients can receive testosterone injections at our clinic every 7-14 days. Such visits are billed to insurance companies as nurse’s visits. A patient can self-inject if he knows the injection technique and follow-up labs show compliance with directions for medication dosing.

Quarterly visits with the provider and specific lab testing are required for any method of testosterone administration, whether topical or injected.

Narcotic Medications

Management of chronic pain will be referred to a certified pain specialist.

Schedule II medications, including Norco, Vicodin, Dilaudid, Oxycodone, as well as others, are not routinely prescribed by our practice.

Prior Authorizations

Prior authorizations for unapproved medications may incur an additional fee.

NOTE: The Texas Medical Act, which governs the practice of medicine, allows a clinic to charge fees for added services involving paperwork, such as medical record duplication and other clerically intensive efforts. We charge $25.00 to compensate for the time and effort required to complete insurance forms.

Phone Messages

Phone messages will be returned within 24 hours. Calling the clinic multiple times may cause a delay in returning your call.

Ending Physician/Patient Relationship

There are times when there is a breakdown of the doctor-patient relationship.  In these instances, it is best to end the relationship.  When this occurs and the patient desires to have his or her records transferred, this request must be made in writing.  The request is to include the name of the facility and address.

Under no circumstance will offensive behavior be tolerated.  Abusive patients or staff will be dismissed from the practice. We continually seek to provide excellent care to our patients. A friendly, respectful demeanor by patients and as well as staff creates a positive environment and facilitates achieving this goal.
